U11G GOLD BOMBERS WIN PLATINUM DIVISION STATE CUP
December 20, 2009
After a challenging regular season, the Gold Bombers won 8 of their last 9 games culminating in a 4-2 victory in the Platinum Division final of the NorCal State Cup.
The Bombers faced the Walnut Creek Explosion at Granite Regional
Park in Sacramento. The game was quickly controlled by the Bombers
when 90 seconds into the game, center midfielder Olivia Mayeda fed
a beautiful through-ball to forward Reina Bonta who hammered
home the early goal. Six minutes later, Reina sent a great cross
into the box that midfielder Michaela Allen got
a clever toe on for the score. In the 20th minute, Reina delivered a deep
throw-in into the box. The ball rebounded off
an Explosion defender
and midfielder Kira Debrow banged it in for a commanding
3-0 lead at the half.
In the second period, Kira made one of the great dribbling runs
and shots of the season to put the Bombers up by four. The Explosion
managed two late goals, the last coming seconds before the
final whistle making
the score much closer than this game dominated by the Bombers.
Congratulations Bombers!

During the game, Jamie Lau and Julia Gallaway were strong in goal. Excellent defense played by Eva Jaegar, Carlie Houser, and Jamie Lau; the other team was not able to score. Claire Lau and Mary Clifford teamed together to play offense, while Eleanor Brown and Annika Velez held mid-field. Ruthie Dewit, recovering from the flu, was there for team support.
Congratulations to all the Storm girls!

November 22, 2009
The Bay Oaks Blues 2001 U9 boys won the Norcal State Cup Bronze 4 championship with a dramatic 1-0 overtime victory versus the Manteca Futbol Club Rebels. The win was secured when Tilman Vetter sent a gorgeous cross into the box to Wrenn Robinson who expertly headed it in for the winning goal in the final seconds of overtime.
The Blues reached the finals with a 2-0 quarterfinal victory over the Dublin United Celtics and a 1-0 semifinal victory over the Livermore FC Mad Dogs. Sterling Stokes scored the winning goal in the semifinals, and along with Carlos Oliva, Angel Garcia, Imman Barnes, Ari Bornstein, Vetter, and Robinson controlled play in the middle of the field throughout the tournament. Andres Beck-Ruiz, Jackson Oh, Josh Rogers, Peter Lehman, and Finn Banbury led a dominant defense which did not allow a single goal in the quarterfinal, semifinal, and final games.
Congratulations to the Bay Oaks Blues 2001!

BAY OAKS U16B GOLD TAKE HUGH KINNEAR CELTIC TOURNAMENT
September 26-27, 2009
The Bay Oaks U-16 boys took first place in the Hugh Kinnear Celtic Tournament. The team went 4-0-0 in the tournament.
The championship game was Bay Oaks Gold '93 vs. WSU Atletico Morelia, with both teams going into this final game undefeated from their groups.
In the first half both teams missed opportunities to score but none so clear as an open goal for Athletico Morelias in the last of the first half. Only a last last ditch defensive effort by Ben Mittelberger saved a certain goal but he paid the price as the ball struck him in the face and took him out for the remainder of the game.
The second half started with a bang as Gold '93 started to play with more intensity and quality. They made the Athletico Morelia players chase the ball all over the field and dominated possession during the whole of the second period. Bay Oaks Gold '93 went on to win the game comfortably with a final score line of 4 - 1. All players and parents are to be commended for their best behavior under extremely hostile circumstances created by parents and players from the Morelia team.
Congratulations Gold 93!
BAY OAKS U18B GOLD WIN SANTA CLARA SPORTING INVITATIONAL
August 7-8, 2009
The Bay Oaks U-18 boys took first place in the Santa Clara Sporting Invitational, generally considered the top boys' tournament in Cal-North. The team went 4-1-1 in the tournamment, winning the quarterfinals 1-0 vs. Santa Clara, the semifinals in penalty-kick shootout vs. Stanford and the finals 5-0 vs. the Nevada Devils of Las Vegas.
The defense, led by center backs Eric Sassano and Drew Ranahan along with holding midfielder Connor Grant and goalkeeper Alex Cabrera allowed just one goal in six games. The offense was sparked by play-making midfielder Nicolai Littleton and Josue Macias, who scored the first two goals of the final.
The U-18 Bay Oaks are now ranked #1 in California by gotsoccer.com - CONGRATULATIONS!
BLASTERS EARN CHAMPIONSHIP AT SAN RAMON VALLEY CUP
August 1-2, 2009
The Bay Oaks Blasters U12 Girls started their summer tournament season off by winning the San Ramon Valley Cup in great fashion. The Blasters won 3 games and tied one in a 4 game flight, scoring 23 goals while only giving up 1.
Continual pressure and quick transition by the Blasters kept the San Ramon Courage off balance to start the tournament. Both Simone Williams and Nayeli Cruz scored twice to start the attack. Reva Swiedler, Gaby Powell and Brianna Lau had beautiful assists from the wings and defense to help their teammates score. Sydney McGillis tallied the final goal to extend the lead to 6-0.
The scoring continued in the next game versus the Diablo FC Firepower. Defenders Gracie Duncan and Aliyah Walker both scored and assisted on goals. Midfielder Ashley Ryan and defender Taylor Saechao got into the scoring column with great shots as well. The defense was solid and kept the Firepower from mounting any counterattack. At sweeper Elise Buser controlled the Blasters relentless defense and help preserve the 8-0 win.
Once again the Blaster came out on fire in their third game versus the San Ramon Spirit with an 8-0 victory. Goalkeeper Lorna McElrath, getting extra time on the field, scored in the second half.
A motivated Lamorinda United team played the Blasters to a 1-1 draw in a nail biting fourth game. Jordyn Cunningham scored the Blasters only goal of the game. Cunningham also had a team high 8 assists for the tournament. Cruz had a team high 7 goals.
With a larger point differential the Blasters were awarded the San Ramon Valley Cup Championship Trophy. The Blasters were without Aerial Chavarin and Lisa Bertholdt.
The Blasters attack was a total team effort. In total 9 Blasters found the back of the net during the 4 game tournament. Coaches Steve Hathaway and Jose Poblete could not remember such a balanced attack in their 15 years with Bay Oaks.
BAY OAKS BOMBERS '98 GOLD FINALISTS AT PLEASANTON RAGE TOURNAMENT
August 1-2, 2009
The U-11 Bombers ‘98 Gold team put in a stellar performance the weekend of August 1-2, 2009 in the Pleasanton Rage College Showcase Tournament as they earned a spot in the coveted Premier championship game after earning the most points of any team in the preliminary rounds.
With a potent offense and a stingy defense, they earned three straight victories in the qualifying rounds, notching ten goals for and conceding only two goals against.
The Bombers began their march to the finals with a decisive 4-1 victory over hosts Pleasanton Rage Orange, with Kira Debro and Reina Bonta tallying two goals apiece and great play at every position on the field. The Bombers’ next game, a showdown with the highly-ranked Tracy Crush, was particularly exciting. With a determined effort by all of the girls, the Bombers were able to break through in the first half on a goal by Reina Bonta and preserved the 1-0 victory with stout defense, excellent midfield play, and relentless waves of attack that put Tracy’s defenders on their heels. The combined defensive effort of goalie Alia Morris and defenders Olivia Mayeda, Abby Cohen, and Kacy Stoddard was particularly noteworthy as their efforts were instrumental in preserving a clean sheet against a dangerous Tracy offense. The Bombers sealed their trip to the premier championship game with their third consecutive victory when they defeated FC Fremont 98 Mission Valley United Black 5-1 on two goals apiece from Kira Debro and Reina Bonta and a beautiful strike from Alessandra Marcone. In the championship game, the Bombers faced the mighty, top-ranked Mustang Magic. The Bombers took the early lead on a first-half goal by Reina Bonta and it was a tight 1-1 game after the first half. But Mustang was able to break it open in the second half on their way to victory.
Every girl made outstanding contributions to the Bombers’ success: Alia Morris was tremendous in goal all weekend; Olivia Mayeda, Abby Cohen, and Kacy Stoddard gave opposing forwards fits with their tenacious defense; Grace Adams, Michaela Allen, Tallulah Chop, Bea Rose, Kaila Dioquino, Reina Bonta, and Greta Kohls were stalwarts in midfield; and Kira Debro and Allessandra Marcone had opposing defenders on their backfoot all weekend. Congratulations to all of the girls for a great and successful effort and a well-deserved second place finish! The Bombers are looking forward to continuing to compete and improve throughout the balance of the season.
Not to be outdone, the sister team, the U-11 Bombers '98 Blue team did an excellent job in the Pleasanton Rage Gold flight consolation match. After regulation and 2 overtime periods, the game was tied and it was down to penalty kicks. Santa Rosa was able to squeak out the victory 3-1 in PKs but the Bombers Blue had nothing to hang their head about. Look for bright things from this new team in the future!

Between aggressive attacks to solid defense, all contributed to an impressive victory!
GO BOTAFOGOS!
BAY OAKS GOLD 91 QUARTERFINALISTS AT SURF CUP 2009
August 1-3, 2009
The Bay Oaks Gold '91 team headed to sunny San Diego for Surf Cup from August 1 - 3, 2009 in good form after a rewarding summer of college camps and playing for the Bay Oaks U-20 team coached by Peter Hayton. The first match of the tournament saw the team defeat FC San Diego 1 - 0, avenging a loss from the spring 2009 Nomads Tournament. Despite the halves at Surf being only 30 minutes, the match was of a high standard with both teams trying to possess the ball. The winning goal came off a deflected shot from Josue Macias.
The second group match against the Vancouver Whitecaps was very competitive, highly energetic, and ended in a 1 - 1 draw. Vancouver sought to pressure as often as possible and were rewarded in the middle of the first half when they broke through the Bay Oaks backline and scored. In response, the Bay Oaks returned the pressure and from an intercepted pass by Tito Madrid were awarded a penalty kick, which Andres Plascencia scored.
The final group match came against an ODP team from New York and again, as in the Vancouver match, there was much pressuring and not much passing going on although this time Bay Oaks were able to win 1 - 0. As the match neared it's end, New York pushed forward looking for a winner that would qualify them for the quarterfinals. In doing so they left themselves uncovered in the back and Raul Vega took advantage scoring the winning goal on a breakaway with 1 minute left in the match.
The quarterfinal saw a rematch of the Nomads quarterfinal from the spring against a strong and very well organized Slammers FC team. In a wonderfully played and highly competitive match, the Bay Oaks lost on the 8th round of PKs after a 1 - 1 draw during normal time. Both teams play an attractive, ball-possession style with a highly organized backline, which led to a even first half without either team creating great chances. In the second half Slammers were awarded a penalty and scored to take the lead with 20 minutes remaining in the game. With 10 minutes left, in what must have been the goal of the tournament, Connor Grant scored off a full bicycle kick in a crowded penalty box from 15 yards as the Slammers goalkeeper looked on in disbelief. That sent the game into PKs where, despite the heroics of goalkeeper Billy Knutsen, the Bay Oaks succumbed to Slammers on the 8th round, 6-5.
