Club Information
The Bay Oaks Soccer Club is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to further the education of youth soccer players and to develop, promote and administer the game of soccer at the competitive level among youth without regard to race, sex or economic advantage. The club is organized as a Public Benefit Corporation and governed by the attached bylaws.
Bay Oaks Soccer Club is associated with the Jack London Youth Soccer League (“JLYSL”). The JLYSL is one of many leagues state-wide that, collectively, are members of the California Youth Soccer Association ("CYSA"), over 200,000 soccer players strong. JLYSL is the CYSA league serving Oakland, Alameda, Piedmont and parts of Berkeley.
CYSA, along with Youth Soccer Associations from other states in the U.S., are part of the 3,000,000 members United States Youth Soccer Association ("USYSA"), which governs youth soccer in the country.
The general philosophy of USYSA, CYSA, and JLYSL is to make a level of play available that is comfortable for all soccer players. To that end, three levels were created:
- Division I, competitive, traveling teams.
- Division III, competitive club-sponsored select teams.
- Division IV, recreational.
The Bay Oaks Soccer Club operates the Division I program for JLYSL. In addition to Bay Oaks, JLYSL is comprised of six local soccer clubs:
Alameda,
Grass Valley,
Montclair,
Oakland,
Piedmont, and
Rockridge.
Bay Oaks was formed to offer the most skillful players from JLYSL member clubs an opportunity to learn from selected coaches with years of experience and training. Any player from these clubs or residing Oakland, Alameda and Piedmont are encouraged to try out for the Bay Oaks if they want to play at the Division I competitive level. Bay Oaks also serves players from surrounding communities on a limited basis; please refer to the Bay Oaks Out-of-League Player Policy for more information.
Bay Oaks also serves as a platform for players to try out for the Olympic Development Program ("ODP") which forms district, state, regional and national teams. Every year, Bay Oaks is well represented on the District IV and state ODP teams. In 2003, two Bay Oaks players were selected for the national ODP team.
